SDLP YOUTH ‘IMPORTANT TO HEAR YOUNG VOICES’

Monday, November 20th, 2006

SDLP Youth member Noeleen Higgins attended the launch of the Where Is My Public Servant (WIMPS) Youth eParticipation Project today at Queen’s University Belfast.

She said, “I very much welcome the launch of this project which I believe will enhance youth participation in politics throughout the North of Ireland. This project provides an effective medium for young people to discuss issues relevant to them and engage directly with their local elected representatives.

The past decade has seen a growing recognition of the importance of youth participation in politics. The WIMPS e- project is a great example of how young people can make their voices heard by the decision makers.

At the launch I spoke to various members of the WIMPS team and made them aware of the work that SDLP Youth are doing as well as drawing their attention to our website www.sdlpyouth.com which was launched earlier this year.

In conclusion as the e-project gets up and running I look forward to developing a closer working relationship with the WIMPS group.”
